Welcome To Athlon Sport

What it means to be part Athlon Sport: I have seen so many different people become part of Athlon for so many different reasons, but one thing they all have in common is the sense of friendship. I speak on behalf of all the club members when I say Athlon Sport is a place where you meet life long friends. For me, it’s not about the cycling, the actual riding is a small part which brings us all together. I have been the person just starting out getting pushed along by strangers I now call close friends and I have pushed along strangers I now enjoy a coffee with after a club ride and it makes being part of Athlon Sport something special. The club rides have transformed my riding and improved it to a level i never thought I would reach,  I found myself pushing my limits every Saturday morning just to impress my   friends and it amazes every time me how anyone else other than my parents would be so genuinely proud to see me excel myself….and this is just on the rides. The coffee in the shop at the end of a ride is without fail full of banter and a bit of typical English abuse plus a great chance for all the different rides to catch up and compare... read more

GR100

Hello there! On June 14th I will be turning thirty and I thought one day what challenges can I do to celebrate this birthday? Then Gordon Ramsay tweeted that he is holding the first event of many to raise money for the Gordon Ramsay Foundation which aims to raise two million in two years for Cancer Reasarch UK, Meningitis Now, Scottish Spina Bifida Association, Louis Dundas Centre at GOSH and Action Against Hunger. This event was to be in his GR100 team of just 100 competing in The Stafford Ironman 70.3! I thought…sounds intriguing so I clicked on the link only to find it is taking place ON my birthday! I thought come on that surley is a sign to fill out the form and have a go at getting in! I was totally expecting not to hear from them as I thought I wouldn’t have a chance…but a week later the phone rang and it was the GR100 rep congratulating me on getting a place! I was buzzing, screaming in excitement for about an hour…then the reality kicked in of open water swimming 1.2 miles, cycling 56 miles and finishing on a half marathon…what have I got myself into! Surely I should be enjoying my birthday going to the zoo or out for a lovely meal!! Throughout December I was hyped thinking about the race, but at the same time enjoying Christmas and using the excuse of ‘the training program hasn’t started yet’ to have a rest month! Then in January the fun started. GR100 Ironman was launched at an event in London where I met the team and Gordon... read more
